JAGORI is involved in action-research on a range of women’s issues. All such studies have been followed up with focused advocacy and interventions on these issues through larger platforms.
The recent fellowship research report by Roma is Sasural se Nayyhar Tak which takes into account the land rights struggle faced by Adivasi and Dalit women in three districts of Kaimoor region of Uttar Pradesh.
The report on PARO – Mewat Mein Kharidi Hui Ek Aurat is a research study report which highlights the social, political, economic and cultural status and struggles of PARO. Referred as PARO these girls and women are purchased in Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh. The report, based on the survey, interview and case studies discusses their vulnerabilities.
Our studies on the status of single women and on women’s acute mental and emotional health have played a significant role in bringing a women-centred perspective on these issues to the attention of policy-makers. We have also participated in international research projects on trafficking, migration and sex work.
Last two decades have witnessed a sharp increase in the participation of women in the informal sector. One of the largest increases has been among domestic workers. A JAGORI fellow undertook a survey of over three hundred and fifty women to study the working and living conditions of part-time domestic workers in the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan. This study is available as Rights and Dignity: Women Domestic Workers in Jaipur. The report, based on the survey, interviews and case studies, demonstrates that domestic work is highly informal in its organization; discusses their vulnerabilities; and highlights the undervaluation of their work.

The situation of migrant women workers in the urban informal economy is an area of particular concern especially in the context of current macro economic and urban development policies. Our action-research project in the Bawana Resettlement Colony explores the impact of evictions on women & acute lives and livelihoods, and is aimed at supporting the struggle of this community to claim their rights and entitlements as citizens of Delhi. more…
